Long before making kinetic sculpture I explored movement through the technique of animation. This simple machine was designed as a teaching tool for animators, where each frame is drawn on an index card and the movie is viewed by flipping through the cards. Editing is a simple task of adding or removing cards.

  • Dude, you're my favorite kinetic sculptor :3

  • Oh man, I used to do this on the margins of books too! And then you went and made a machine to stand in for your thumb to flip the pages better and faster.

You are my hero. I mean that. Ever since someone linked me to your TED presentation, my brain just hasn't been the same. I'm working on a tiny robot dinosaur out of paperclip wire. Muscle wire will power him. I love tiny mechanisms, clockwork things, exposed gear trains.

  • Why this doesn't have more pageviews is beyond me.
