I first saw this video a couple of years ago and still revisit it frequently til this day. Wonderful, wonderful song and wonderful, wonderful performance.

I'm singing this in my voice recital tomorrow. :D

three more outstanding abilities Mr. Matthews possesses: 1. He knows when to do legato, when to speak it. He knows the difference because he goes with what the lyric is demanding it the moment he sings it. 2. He chooses wonderful, unique repertoire. 3. He knows exactly what key to put the song in so it suits his voice beautifully. Fortuitously, his vocal range is similar to mine so I can sing along to a lot of his stuff without having to deal with transposition!

I liked Mr. Matthews the most - if there is such a thing, because he is absolutely wonderful - in this concert. his sincerity shines through! (wonder how old he was at this point.) and his breath control was perfect, it allowed for the most natural kind of vibrato. exhilarating!

I very much enjoyed that, thank you. I'm trying to decide between this song and 'Welcome to the World' for an assessment... What do people think?

Question. I Don't know if you took it at a faster tempo than I am, but when you read the music, Stephen Flaherty placed dotted quarter notes in specific spots. When singing thru, it really changes the meaning of the song when you follow the written rhythm. I was just wondering if you noticed the dotted quarters when you sang this? If so, mabye its just a faster tempo and i'm having trouble hearing them. But anyway, You sang it very well, by the way.

What a lovely, honest, appropriate performance. Thank you, Stearns.
Was this canned music or what? How did this persona get the backtracks (or sheet music) to A Man Of No Importance?

There's a piano- you can see it. The vocal selections to A Man of No Importance are available.
