The post-election political crisis in Cote d'Ivoire continues to deepen with fighting between the warring parties having erupted at the end of February. Rae McGrath, Emergency Adviser in Liberia, assesses the crisis and the resulting influx of refugees into Liberia.

On the 4th April, Save the Children International declared the emergency situation in Cote d'Ivoire and Liberia, and has launched a global appeal of US$ 40 million to meet the immediate needs of 650,000 children and families affected by the crisis in both countries. Save the Children will focus on the immediate health, protection, shelter, WASH, food security, nutrition and education needs of this population, with a particular focus on the most vulnerable children. Save the Children's emergency programme in Liberia will focus on the urgent child protection and education needs of children and families affected by the refugee crisis
