I think Cleese hits the nail on the head.

He says Palin is like a well-trained parrot who has learned to very accurately repeat certain phrases--and does them very well--but really doesn't understand the meaning of what she's saying. I think that's very perceptive, especially for an extemporaneous answer. You see how accurate it is when Palin moves beyond her canned talking points and tries to answer a question that's out of her comfort zone. She can't do it, even now.

True democracy is what got us to this point today where every major government in the world is flat broke, has created an army of hopeless dependents where there previously were none, and are entirely incapable of ending a recession even after having hired armies of economists since the birth of that field.

Democracy is for people who need to be led. I do not wish to follow anyone. It's much easier and cheaper to just do the right thing.
