@voxhunden my english is not so well, i think, in gregorian music and singing of munchs there has been a tradition in a) chant notation and b) singing daily without a brake. you are right, in some monasteries there were no instruments allowed, but the song itsself is totally documentaded. the book with all notes you can buy, in german language. i also got a version of this song. in chant i guess, hildegard ist top of the hill. best regards

p.s. ok it as sung only in one voice, so the song here is also a bit of an improvisation. but of COURSE hildegard would recognise it, she was a musician :-)

I find it had to believe that this sounds even remotely historically correct. Beautiful as it may be, it's still a new age trance thing Hildegard would have probably had trouble even recognizing.

I am an atheist, but love this woman's music. I also respect her personal accomplishments, though I doubt her visions were anything but a form of schizophrenia. .
I have a collection of several CDs of her music.

You do a dis-service to the understanding of our human cognitive complexity. Leaving aside the posibility of there being an esoteric other. Visions n hearing voices is not a sign of schizophrenia many people such and are not considered MAD. Allow for the creativity of the mind n maybe Jungian psychology. Catherine of Sienna drove herself to having tormenting dreams but this was her pych telling her to stop purging practises. She did n changed monastic practice to be more charitable n practical.

Yes, but voices from your inner psyche are still not the creator of the universe having a personal chat with you. It's an important distinction.

Have no problem. I have my own faith n experiences. But I always take a path of humility nd place all things back into His hands.
In "Cloud of Unknowing" wise religious people warned of resting spiritual faith on dreams n visions and the next sign and wonders. I have looked into this n have contested fakes. have worked in mental health. Many people have many interesting experiences but they are not always stable people. I think Hilde was because of her intelligence and "fruit."

Xpat (cont)Don't forget. Jesus warned of this. Pursuing spirtual affirmation can be like a woman seeking assurance (cards and flowers) from her lover instead of rom he husband. It can be little more than prostituting yourself to the highest bidder or vision maker. There are spiritual people. They are not always the ones who stand in the market place and hear their own voice. They are usually silent in their own room quietly interceeding n listening. "Be thought of as little and of no account."

I did some research and they say her visions are consistent with symptoms of extreme migraines. But I also respect her amazing accomplishments.
