People don't make as much a fuss over viruses and firewalls when it comes to Apple Macs; there's a sense that these computers are immune to such things. And while there aren't as many viruses for a Mac as there are for a PC, to not have any protection is simply asking for trouble. Intego's offering is a good, solid solution. It offers all the usual functions you expect: automatic updates for virus definitions, so it knows about the news nasties that have cropped up; real-time scanning, so each new file is given a once-over with no noticeable difference to performance; and of course, the option to either schedule or manually scan the entire computer. This last one is best done while you're away from your desk; on an iMac G4 it hogged the entire processor, and on a G5 it slowed the computer down considerably.
Something Intego seem particularly proud of is their "Turbo mode". Theoretically, the software will remember which files it has scanned, so it won't scan them next time, making each progressive scan quicker and less processor intensive. I've yet to see this work, though. Each time you download the new virus definitions, it scans the whole drive again (to make sure those remembered files haven't picked up anything new), and new definitions seem to come out very regularly. But, although Turbo mode was what attracted me in the first place, this is still a solid bit of kit. Recommended.
NB: For those using a new Intel Mac with Windows installed through Boot Camp, this product is only suitable for your OS X installation. To protect against both OS X and Windows viruses, you're better off with this product instead: Intego VirusBarrier X5 Dual Protection (Mac)

yes of course, it can scan your windows files but can't repair if a file is infected, for that you need a windows based AV.
