Premium UV Camera Lens Filter dealextreme

The UV filter is a mainstay of SLR lens'. Almost every lens i own has one screwed on it. But when i got this new DSLR (67mm) i didn't have any filters near that size. My local camera shop wanted 3-4 times what DX did for a similar filter, and since i just gave them all my money for the lens/body, DX saves the day once again.

I've been doing photography since I was 15 (23 now) and my family has history of photographers. WE DO NOT US UV FILTERS. There is no need for filters. However because you are concerned with having "finger prints" on your "expensive" lens....that's just silly. Clean those finger prints with micro-fiber cloths. No big deal. But I guess you like to spend the dollars on junk.

Why would you put a cheap UV filter on an expensive lens? You are degrading sharpness, introducing chromatic aberration, multiplying flare enormously, robbing yourself of contrast, and setting yourself up for some bad reflections. Also, cheap filters use cheap glass, which breaks and scratches a lot easier than a tough front element. When this filter breaks, it can really damage your front element as it sends glass shards flying into it, whereas it would have been fine naked, as it's recessed.

You get a free pass, because your not from around here. But this is how we role. We doin it dirty.

Cheap glass? unless your getting tempered or boro filters, i dont know how your going to avoid wear from normal use.

Flying glass? In a case where the filter were broken at such force as to send glass "flying," i think the offending object would be so close to the lens as to make its coming into contact with the front element inevitable regardless.

@dylrock100 its more about what settings you use on your camra, i reccomend a wide angle lens (for tips on shooting sunsets (search: how to set up camra for sunsets)). hope i helped

Wouldn't a more logical solution be to use a lens hood? No image quality degradation, no increase in CA, and it's MORE protected from fall damage most of the time, and they're even cheaper to replace, not to mention what they were designed for, getting rid of harsh flare and sunlight!
