Dating to the early 1800s, shape note singing is a uniquely American musical tradition bringing communities together through four-part harmonies--in turn boisterous and reverent--but always soul-stirring. Sue Arbuthnot and Richard Wilhelm, Portland filmmakers, produced this film for Oregon Public Broadcasting's (OPB) Oregon Art Beat program.
