Went to Ronnie Scotts last Saturday to see Lonnie Liston Smith. The Jim Mullen Quartet was the support act. Memories of nights at the Oval back in the early 80's came flooding back. A great guitarist and genuinely nice man.

Jim is a wonderful jazz guitarist. I used to live in the London area and had the pleasure of catching one or two of his gigs most weeks for a good few years and he never produced anything other than stellar performances. A great example, inspiration and mentor to young jazz musicians too, many of whom have flourished under his wing. I just wish he would play more often where I now live, up North!

Cheers! Another jazzer that plays with his fingers and doesn't used the same generic, muffled, underwater tone. It's not just tone that is affected by using a pick- it's the pocket, staying on the beat- and this guy is nimble. Absolutely top notch lyricism and swing!

I love this guy.

I've heard Jim Mullen only twice, on french TV, in the early 70's. He was playing rock music, with Vinegar Joe and Pete Brown's Piblokto. He really stroke me, so I remembered his fantastic playing ( with the thumb!)till today, when I discover he's a brilliant jazz player. So brilliant and poetic. Thanks, Jim...

Hear hear. I agree with all the below.
Jim is a monster - what a style! what note-selection!! he's pure class.
I've had the pleasure of playing with him just recently and I'm just in heaven when sharing a stage with him!
Definitely deserves more recognition.
When is Jim Mullen going to get the respect he deserves? He has such an identifiable sound and feel. Great stuff!

Absolutely! I've been following his music for years & years and I swear he just gets better!! Every tune he played that night was given its own treatment - without repetition of phrases or use of tricks.
