Pontius Pilate Inscription at Caesarea. Randall Niles reads from Pilate's dedication stone to Tiberias at Caesarea on the Mediterranean Sea in Israel.

During the trial of Jesus, the gospel accounts focus a great deal on a larger-than-life character named Pontius Pilate. Luke referred to him as the Roman governor of Judea during the reign of Tiberius Caesar (Luke 3:1).

Do we have evidence for Pontius Pilate outside the biblical texts?

In 1961, archaeologists discovered a plaque fragment at Caesarea Maritima, an ancient Roman city along the Mediterranean coast of Israel. The plaque was written in Latin and embedded in a section of steps leading to Caesareas Amphitheatre. The inscription includes the following:

Pontius Pilatus, Prefect of Judea, has dedicated to the people of Caesarea a temple in honor of Tiberius.

Visit http://www.allaboutarchaeology.org/pontius-pilate-faq.htm to further explore the importance of Caesarea and other ancient cities to Bible Archaeology underlying the Biblical scriptures.

  • @islomhaq you wont find that lie in the bible because it is not in there. You are making it up. The bible does not say that. But it does say that Satan and his ministers transform their selves in to angels of light and appear as the ministers of light- kind of like what Mohammad saw in the cave- an angel- he thought. But it contradicted what God says and therefore was not an angel of Gods, but Satan's.

  • @islomhaq Jesus said to Phillip "Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?"

  • @islomhaq First of all that makes NO sense. Second, finish the chapter. Dont take ONE verse to base your argument.: "The SAME was in the beginning WITH God. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not...." "Before Abraham was I AM" "You will die in your sins if you do not believe I AM He" This is just a couple of verse from the Gospel of John. There are hundreds more.

  • @islomhaq you are on the path of hell. You are not free. you are in bondage and blind. Prove to me that Mohammad even existed. Prove to me that he was sent from God, you cant prove that. Christianity and the Bible was here WAY before Mohammad. Mohammad does not even teach what Christianity teaches yet he says he is an extension of Christianity and the Jews yet he hated Jews and killed many and calls them pigs. God is not the author of confusion- but Mohammad is.

  • @islomhaq where does it say that in the bible?

  • Thank you

  • @bigboyburnsy We have to believe in his miracles by God's permission.

Besides, it is according to your Bible, that Satan can't teach good or his kingdom will fall. Read the Quran and think how it can be from Devil when it teaches good and how to ask for protection of God from Satan.

Study Islam, be at least of those who look at the world with clear eyes, like Noam Chomsky or David Duke. We Muslims love such clever and wise Christians.

  • @bigboyburnsy Interestingly, Islam argues about the issue which is really doubtful. I don't know if you know that it is historically impossible to prove the event. So, how much is it different from Christianity claiming he was such and such, and Islam telling the opposite? We are both talking about the issue, we have no proofs for. BUT, Islam teaches to respect Jesus, as well as other prophets. We must believe in his miraculous birth, in which many modern Anglican bishops don't believe.

  • @islomhaq Islam teaches man that Christ is not the Son of God, that Christ was not crucified and that Christ did not raise from death. Islam is an Anti-Christ religion. Satan loves Anti-Christ religions.
