@Ariessfij The Bee Gees just wanted recognition for their dominance of the late 70's, 8 #1's for themselves plus writing/producing another 8 for others in a 4 year period as well as countless top ten hits.
They wrote "if I can't have you" to help ABBA to break into the US Market but they didn't want it so Yvonne Elliman had a #1 with it.

Poor ABBA were being interviewed by the idiot Molly Meldrum who had no talent at actually interviewing people. He may have had a great music knowledge but his interview style was atrocious. He was an embarrassment to Australian TV and should never have been allowed to interview royalty like ABBA.
