Movies Under the Stars - Ruby Princess - What Happens in Vegas

This is a 2-minute panoramic view of the Calypso Pool on the Ruby Princess, at about 4pm on Dec. 11, 2008 during a one-week Western Caribbean Cruise. The movie playing on the 600 sq. ft. Movies Under the Stars Screen is What Happens in Vegas, starring Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher in "What Happens in Vegas." The quality of the video does not do full justice to the fine quality of the movie screen and the sound on huge speakers. Regrettably, the choice of movie was the not the best. On May 2008, the New York Times movie reviewer, Manohla Dargis opened her review with: "What Happens in Vegas, one of those junky time-wasters that routinely pop up in movie theaters, wont make you laugh much or at all. (Once was enough for me.) But if you know anything about the art or have ever marveled at how even the most generic of old B movies look pretty good (they were usually in focus, for starters), you may wonder how a major studio like 20th Century Fox could release something this crudely manufactured, with its graceless setups, unstable lensing and ghastly lighting. It also makes you wonder if executives at studios look at dailies, much less can hear the poetry of the English language." Oh well, as least the popcorn is free during the movies, and at night special covers with headrests are provided over the chaise lounges, with blanket if needed. It's a fun way to spend some time if you find nothing else to do on the ship.
