Diane Schuur is an American jazz singer and pianist. Nicknamed "Deedles", she, like Stevie Wonder, was blinded at birth due to retinopathy of prematurity. Having the rare gift of perfect pitch, she taught herself piano by ear and developed a rich, resonant vocal style early on. She has headlined many of the world's most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall and The White House. She has toured with such greats as Quincy Jones, Stan Getz, B. B. King, Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, and Stevie Wonder. Stan Getz played on Schuur's first three albums, "Deedles" ('84), "Schuur Thing" ('85) and "Timeless" ('88). Twelve of Schuur's albums have reached the Top 10 Jazz Albums on Billboard history charts. She has won two Grammy awards "Timeless" ('86), and for "Diane Schuur & the Count Basie Orchestra" ('87). The recording with the Basie Orchestra spent 33 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard jazz charts. In '91 "Pure Schuur" made the #1 slot on the Contemporary Jazz charts, and "Heart To Heart" made #1 on the Billboard charts. Late in 2003, Schuur released "Midnight", featuring original songs written for the album by Barry Manilow. This selection is from her album CD "Love Songs" released in 1993.

  • @ClaireSosebeeSings you know, I've always said that I don't think Sammy got the recognition for his voice that he deserved. I too adore Joabim and have since I discovered him in my twenties; huge fan of Bossa Nova.
