The Device featured in Blood Omen 2. It was an ancient weapon, built by the Hylden prior to their banishment from Nosgoth. Its purpose was destroy all creatures in the land except members of their race, and it comprised of three major parts: the Mass (an animal that could kill beings with a single thought), the Device itself (a machine to attune the Mass' mental energy against the Hylden's enemies), and a network (needed to channel the mental energy from the Device and onto Nosgoth).
Kain first heard about the Device from the traitor vampire Sebastian, who was confident it would spell his doom. Later (at Vorador's direction), Kain visited the Seer to learn more. The Seer told him that the Device had "lain dormant beneath Meridian for time beyond time", but the Sarafan Lord had now "empowered the machine to unleash its destruction upon the land". She agreed to help Kain destroy it, and to this end she offered her blood to him. This granted Kain the Dark Gift: 'Telekinesis', enabling him to enter the Device.
The entrance to the Device - located in the centre of Meridian, "under the very noses of the aristocracy" - was disguised to look like a rather unremarkable building. However, as Kain used his new telekinetic ability to enter it, this façade melted away. A short way inside, he encountered the Beast. The Beast - who was actually Janos Audron in a devolved form - told Kain he was enslaved to feed the machine with his life. The Device was too large for Kain to destroy, as it was city-sized and descended far underground. However, the Hylden who created it - the Builder - was imprisoned in the Eternal Prison, and he could stop it from working.
Kain found the Builder. He learned that the Device was constructed when "two races warred with each other for dominance of Nosgoth", but its network was never finished. The Hylden race had been expelled into the demon dimension before it could be completed. Kain suddenly realized the true purpose of the Glyph energy conduits installed by the Sarafan - the Sarafan Lord was intending to use that network. The Device was nearly ready to be used. Luckily, the Builder was happy to aid Kain, providing Kain released him from his tormented imprisonment. Kain killed the Builder and drank his blood. This would allow him to poison the Mass, and thus render the Device useless.
Kain returned to the Device after fighting Magnus. The Beast warned Kain that the Hylden he would encounter within were very dangerous. Kain certainly ran into a lot of them as he made his way towards the Mass, both 'normal' ones and warriors. They appeared to be performing lots of experiments in the Device, making use of the place until it could fulfill its deadly potential. Humans, obviously slaves, could be found in many rooms, serving the whims of their Hylden masters. Kain also encountered Lesser Demons, and saw that the Hylden had a measure of control over them. The Device was a highly technological environment, and it seemed very alien compared to Nosgoth's usual locations.
Kain eventually found his way into the heart of the Device and killed the Mass. With the Mass dead, the Sarafan Lord's trump card - his master weapon - was gone. By the time Kain got back to the Beast's cell, Janos Audron had regained his natural form, and also recovered enough strength to teleport them both to Sanctuary.

stupid mistakes or not, pretty much everyone ended up dead and feeding him.
i imagine not too many hylden died until the war with the vampires. the vampires ended up turning humans and he tricked humans into killing all the vampires. so either way he won. when he made Raziel he knew he would be trapped in the sword so he didn't care if he lost one soul if he destroy all the vampires left. it wasn't until kain found a new way to write history that the elder god's plans where countered.

everyone is food for the elder god no matter if they worship or even know of him or not, id imagine the hylden were immortal which is why he wanted them killed "they wouldnt submit to his wheel of fate" but he ended up with his vampires unable to create new life and were immortal, some human immortal guardians, not to mention when he made raziel completly unkillable and brought mobius back to life, for someone driven only by hunger, he made some pretty stupid decisions

i don't think the elder god really cared that he lost the vampires they where food for him anyway and they all died. he never really had the hylden so if they die no lose. i don't think the human guardians where immortal. the human guardians where originally turned into vampires, at some point Meobius and Mortanius rebeled before they became vampires. each was aligned with a pillar that would have granted them extreme long life, but they still aged.
again, it is in Defiance and easy to miss

its strange that because of his hatred of the hylden he ended up losing vampires as a source of food and then led humans to rebel against vampires, thus creating immortal human guardians, and ending up freeing the hylden as well, the elder god isnt too good at planning things out is he, despite his omniscience

it is mentioned i think in Defiance, the hylden where eternal rather than immortal. They could still die due to violence. the vampires started the war because the elder god wanted the hylden dead so he could consume their souls. the hylden retaliated by cursing the vampires with immortality, cutting them off from the elder god. The vampires banished the hylden but then most committed suicide due to losing their god's grace.
the elder god then began using humans to get rid of both sides.

also are the hlyden immortal, if they are i understand why elder god hated them just like he ended up hating vampires, but its never mentioned, if not, why did he care that they didnt worship him, wether you even know about elder god or not, he still eats your soul, and seeing as he wanted them gone, why does not allow even one vampire around despite thats whats keeping them banished

the soul vampires are pretty common in sr but it seems kain is the only one right now, its not explained but i imagined they only used their blood to program their immunity to it which is why it is so vunerable to it, there are many other races to get blood from so it seems more likley they just immuned themselfs and set it up to kill all life, but the elder god is sort of immortal so i surpose he would survive,

vampires that are strong enough to have souls that can re-enter their bodies are pretty rare, and they can't harm the elder god because they can not interact with him, it is only Raziel and Kain, after he is purified in Defiance, that can even see the elder god.
the mass needed vampire blood (Janos) to kill vampires, and i imagine a few humans got thrown in there too so it affects humans. how would they get elder god blood to make it affect the elder god?
rns13 2 years ago
yeah but the mass was made to kill anything non hylden, that might include the elder god, though he may strong enough to survive its attack, also killing some vampires inst enough, their souls can still re enter a body if not absorbed which is why they are so dangerous to the elder god, and there time spend in limbo will even make them stronger and harder to kill next time

no, the elder god feeds on souls (i think), killing vampires would have freed their souls, which would have basically been a feast for the elder god.
remember the elder god had no more use for the vampires when the hylden cursed the vampires with immortality, the curse was not the blood thirst.
