TJ's Matt Sloan and Feeding America's Eric Davis are still in conversation about TJ's making a corporate policy to give all food waste. Beyond this conversation, we are asking TJ's to go even further: Zero Waste. Food that can't be given to people who need it should not end up in a landfill....some can be composted, some fed to pigs or other animals, and some sent for alternative waste management such as anaerobic digestion. The status quo is unthinking, outdated, and disastrous. With eyes and ears fully open, we must imagine a new way.
We are patiently waiting to see how the conversation goes before we make our next move with TJ's. But it might take more than waiting....

@MsPinkFabulous Bravo Selena! Not only will you go thrifting with me but would you go Dumpster Diving with me too? I've never been but there is always a first time. Love these little boys and their message. :) They remind me of my son when he was little. <3

Bravo to you taking a stand and teaching your children to be resourceful. More people need to be aware of the waste that happens every day in the retail market. This does not only happen within grocery stores but within retail clothing as well. Perfectly usable items are thrown in the trash to waste.
AND.....to all of the haters who are ready to say something mean about this video, what truly is disgusting..... is the every day waste of major retailers. WE are the ones who pay for it.

@jennifermarievalda Listen, I am not trying to protect what those companies are doing, but what I am saying is that the lifestyle you're promoting as well as the publisher of this video is not the kind of lifestyle you should teach your kids or anyone else for that matter. If you made the choice of doing this for yourself, that's one thing, but it is very much degrade-full thinking that it's OK for everyone else to do the same - it's not! This is a BUM's lifestyle, even if the food is fresh!

I do this because I am disgusted at what is thrown away in the work because of a mild imperfection or because they need room for more stock. I dont only do this for food finds ... I go to stores and reclaim light bulbs because one in a package is broken the other is fine boxes thrown away containing all the contents because the glue popped off or someone opened it bottles of laundry soap shampoo etc because the lid is cracked This is also less money out of my pocket and more into my children

again I am not a BUM my Husband is not a Bum we are hard working people who want more for their children than just getting by we have college tuition, clothing, food, Sports, musical instruments, and essentials for 4 growing kids. I have gone to stores where there were just banana boxes filled with no perishables because of a dented can or a pin hole in a soda can making the others sticky why not just put the remainders in a mark down cart at a discount I Don't do this to get by

@jennifermarievalda ...And if you watched documentaries about DOCTORS eating their own crap, would that make you wanna do the same? Promoting a bum's lifestyle is not something our society should look forward to. As I said we do need to be more conservative, and less wasteful, but that doesn't mean we should start eating from a dumpster. That is an attitude of a looser, who's focused more on survival rather than on achieving - it will only gradually bring you down. Don't teach your kids that!

I love this !! My Kids have been getting into this we even go to the re-cycling center and look for books coloring books and magazines. I cant see buying items that can be found like this. we have stacks of coloring books that have been untouched before. I collect the books and magazines and take most of them to the local thrift store where they are always glad to get them. I never understood who would just throw out a book when done with them . Get the Kids involved !!!! they are the future

@etraderx11 now my children range in age from 3 up to 16 they get excited when I bring things home & I will continue to do it. I have found things like 24 packs of v8 juice cans sealed & do not go out of date for a yr because 1 broke open in the case, dozens of bags of chocolate not even out of date yet. soda with 1 broken open in it not only wasting product but sending aluminum to the landfill instead of recycling it Just recently I found a 10 lb slab of ribs still frozen ! u bet i took it !

@etraderx11 For one you do not know what you are talking about I have watched Documentaries where DOCTORS Yes DOCTORS are dumpster diving to help NOT waist food well educated , employed people of means are doing this . My husband makes over 40,000 a year I make 12,000 we live in a rural community where our House payment is only 330.00 a month electric 100 and heating is around 500 a year We live comfortable for our area But I have not bought bread, crackers, and eggs for over 4 months

Why in the world would you brainwash your kids on how to live off a dumpster food, even if it's not spoiled? I agree that food waste is a problem, but giving it away would not teach the poor people how to earn that food, it would only encourage the opposite - work less and depend more on the free food give-aways. If you want to solve this problem, maybe you should start with teaching the poor folks how to work and then teach EVERYONE how not to waste - sounds like a better approach to me.
