STOP ASKING! GET KNO3 ON EBAY, AT CHEMISTRY STORES, OR JUST SEARCH KNO3 ON GOOGLE PRODUCTS FOR LIKE A MILLION ONLINE SELLERS! AND DO NOT USE STUMP REMOVER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BLOW YOURSELF UP OR POISON YOURSELF

I mixed up 17 pounds of potassium nitrate (KNO3) and powdered sugar to make this insane smoke bomb.

Let me stop it right there to tell you that if you melt it together with granulated sugar, it just burns half as fast with half density smoke. This burns faster with twice as thick smoke but the smoke amount is the same. That's basic chemistry, people. Different volume, same mass. Also, it's WAY more dangerous. Check out this british dude's vid response about what happens when you try and cook it on a stove. Spoiler alert! He smoked his whole house at 5:30.

First I show how it works and how to build it then take it out back and light it up. It gets pretty insane!
Even as far away as I was, I was feeling some serious heat off that fireball! The whole neighborhood behind me was covered in smoke for several minutes.

  • i did this and it blew up in the pan and put a hole in my Kitchen and nearly burnt my house down.

  • @caribes4150 that happens A LOT

  • Greetings from Germany..

    ..but.. I have to contradict you. You tell us that it doesn't matter wether you melt it or you don't. But that isn't correct - look, you've got a huge flame which proves that the whole thing got too much oxygen. And if it burns then it doesn't smoke (..so much, as you can see). If you melt it and isolate it from oxygen, it will burn down slower with more smoke. For example: Burn a newspaper: flame + a bit smoke;

Blow the flame out: more smoke (just for visiualising)

  • @ixodidae2 @ixodidae2 too bad you're incorrect. The O3 in KNO3 is the oxygen used for combustion in the entire reaction. That's why it's used for rocket fuel and exposives. It doesn't use the outside air at all and would burn the same out in space or underwater. The problem was the smoke density being too high, making the volume seem low, because of the accelerant and wide open burning method made it burn itself up super fast. So slowing it down with baking sode would technically help.

  • Now if I did that I'd have cops FBI bomb squad ect I assume you don't have any neighbors or you let them know. Great smoke bomb by the way

  • @MrIlikegadgets well, it was July 1st in Wisconsin so there was kinda smoke everywhere from random cookouts and campfires and fireworks :-P not quite that much, as it did blanket the entire neighborhood behind me, but it was super windy with a big updraft from the quarry next door so it blew sideways and up real quick.

  • Thats a little big?

  • so that is how clouds are made!

  • thats one way to light a fire

  • Double rainbow all the way

  • Care package inbound

  • @MrIlikegadgets Making smoke 'bombs' is not illegal in the United States...they pose no real danger to anyone and are not explosive. Note that small versions are sold to even children before 4th of July (the little colored balls).

  • when you get the fire ball is a good time to whip out the water hose

  • no more firepit.

  • should put the box in a hole in the ground perfectly dug out for it

  • the gardener will be happy :(
