How to record your set with the SL1

Also, if you are using the SL3 or SL4, those have extra inputs on the box to be able to record your set in Scratch Live. But if you only have the SL1 or SL2, then you have to use Audacity or some other program to record your set. Before Serato and Traktor and all these other programs, this was how you had to record your set back in the day with real vinyl/CDs.

@Screwmatic - Well, think about for a second. If you're using one of the SL soundcards (SL1, SL2, SL3, SL4), all they do is output separate tracks. You do all the "mixing" on your external mixer. Scratch Live has no way of knowing what you are doing on your mixer, so how could it record that? There is no "internal" mixer in Scratch Live. Now if you have the one of the SL Rane mixers (57, 68,), yes, those can record the mix directly without having to use Audacity or another prog.

good man thanks...
I have the newest Macbook Pro. I'm doing everything you are saying, but when I record I can hear things like me clicking on my mousepad and even my voice if I talk. What's going on? Is this normal?

@lloung88 - The new 2011 Macs have a combined port. The "headphone" port is for everything depending on what you plug into it. Headphones (output) or mic or line (input). To use it as a line input you must change the setting in System Preferences > Sound. You have it set to mic, which is why it's picking up your voice and external sounds.

i dont have a macbook. i have a compaq laptop. where is the line input. i have a mic and a headphone jack. and i have the same wire. it comes out distorted as u said.

@KebbyTheProphet - Most Windows PC laptops don't have a line input, only mic, which won't work for recording your set. So you will have to buy/use an external soundcard. Or if you have a PC desktop, most do have a line inputs.
