Actually, there were about 1000 others, along with the 300 Spartan elite. But when the stories were told over again, it was narrowed down to just the 300 Spartan elite, thusly glorifying the Spartan army, making them seem greater and powerful.
Obviously, the version of just the 300 elite taking on the Persian army was told by other Spartans.

But hey, the movie was okay. (mostly Gerard Butler, for me ;D)

You read that in a book, huh? Once, I read in a book about this dude who was the son of God and got nailed to a cross - and, dispite that hardcore evidence, some people dare to question me and my facts!... I do wonder why...

And i wonder why people believe to him and not in red riding hood. THE'RE BOTH BOOKS FFS...

umm maybe because the book you speak of also says this dude revived people, cured blinds by just putting his hand on them, walks on water, then revives after being killed...... i think 300 trained soldiers fighting a huge army is more belieable than your book..........
