In a condolence message, the President opined that he was shocked to hear the sudden death of Suresh. As a young journalist enriched with a wide knowledge of the country, his death is unbearable. He further said that the noble task his colleagues could do was to work to fill the loss as a tribute to him.
Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake in another message said Sureshs demise is unbearable. He reminisced how Suresh visited his office a few days before meeting the sudden accident to cover a ceremony. More Parliamentarians have also issued condolence messages.
President Rajapaksa has observed that the death of young skilled journalist Suresh Wickramasinghe is a great loss, at a time when the country was moving towards development after routing terrorism.
Meanwhile, the funeral will take place at the General Cemetery in Avissawella tomorrow afternoon. The remains are now lying at No. 372/2, Wasana, Pahala Kosgama, Kosgama. Among those who paid last respects to him were Ministers Bandula Gunawardena and A.H.M. Fowzie. Many artistes, media colleagues and the public are among the large crowds who are paying their last respects to him. The body will be taken to the General cemetery in Avissawella after the conduct of religious rites at 2.30 p.m. tomorrow.
