I would figure it uses at minimum 3 HD digital cameras which then depth-slice out objects not important to the scene. I also figure it uses a vertical (-shaped curved screen (concave side facing the audience) which has the remote person front-projected onto it. If it is a higher-tech variation of the PEPPERS GHOST illusion, I would have the screen remain transparent non-glossy until a UV-light hits it, which then would allow reflection.

Same tech precursor. Transparent near-invisible screen, when it gets illuminated with the right wavelengths, it becomes very bright.

Mix that with the right near-invisible glass with the proper UV coating, subtle lighting layering, and the PEPPERS GHOST ILLUSION and ta-da!
No tech usually comes into being lacking precursor tech.
