At the local DMV I asked for late fee relief , but the clerk was a young bro with a
ball cap and had to go ask a Supervisor and was declined. Same day at another DMV, and this time I had a Desi woman DMV worker in her 30's and showed her a picture of my 3 year twin boys and my hardship status. She had no problem, saying " we can take care of that" and she easily removed the late fees in part due to prior on-time payment. I thanked her with heartfelt emotion.

To negotiate the penalty does DMV require one go in person to their office? A phone call seems to be only for paying the registration fees AND all late penalties at once. Getting an actual DMV person on the phone isn't easy.
