I prefer their New Romantic sound as well but don't blame the change on America! That was the bands choice and them probably trying to keep up with the Durans. Do your homework!

@jeancocteau1 ... everything you said is true ... I grew up in Toronto and followed them from '80 and on through their first few albums. However, they lost me when they came to America ... not sure that they had to go to a more preppy look, although that aside, the style of music went from a sound that was true to the New Romantic electronic sound to something that resembled 80s trash pop ... love songs and the like.
