Kala Fellowship Artist in Residence and Local Bay Area Artist, Bayete Ross Smith interview at 2007 Kala Artist Annual.
Smith discusses some of his thoughts and motives behind his recent series, "Taking Aim." He also reflects on the views and reactions of observers while he was "shooting" the actual targets.
Those bullet groupings have a lot of room for improvement - I'd suggest better trigger control, and more discipline in your breathing.
I doubt most gun murders were committed by people who frequently go to the range using silhouetted targets though. They usually buy weapons illegally and the first time they shoot them is at their victims. But the concept is very interesting - I hope he comes up with more examples of how we are dehumanizing human life.
