The Groasis Waterboxx was recently ranked first on the list of 2010's best inventions by Popular Science, beating the iPad. The Waterboxx is rapidly becoming a key weapon in the battle against aridity. Tested last year in the Sahara desert, and now used successfully in California's Napa Valley Wineries, the Waterboxx - which can best be described as a 'water battery' - is now being utilised for reforestation in four desert areas in the US.

  • The waterboxx can be filled with water from the beginning, and slowly dispense it, to help a young plant grow its roots deep enough to become self-sustaining.

It also shelters the plant from the weather until it is strong enough to endure it.

It is very efficient in desert areas with little rainfall, harsh sun and dust storms.

  • I think the plastic thing is to catch the rain and help the seeds to germinate. They plant two seeds per location so they can support each other... That's what I get out of it. Nail it down so it disentangle blow away.

  • please explain...!
