Kelowna RCMP Police Brutality Investigation

A Mountie in Kelowna, B.C. is under investigation after he was caught on video allegedly kicking a man in the face during an arrest.

In the video, the suspect is kneeling on the street beside his truck when an officer appears to wind up and kick him. When the suspect stands up, his face is covered in blood, and there appears to be a pool of blood where he was lying.

Kelowna RCMP Supt. Bill M More..cKinnon ordered a criminal investigation into use of excessive force, as well as a conduct of conduct investigation.

"In my opinion, I feel there's sufficient evidence to order a full investigation," McKinnon told reporters.

Police were responding to reports of shots fired at the Harvest Golf Club when they stopped the suspect's truck.

Officers ordered him out of the vehicle, and told him to get down on the ground before the apparent kick.

On-lookers were shocked.

"I suddenly I see him and he comes up and kicks him so hard. He never fought," said a witness, who asked not to be named.

"What was the reason to kick him so hard?"

The Mounties uncovered a shotgun from the suspect's truck, but McKinnon said he was a former employee of the golf course who had a permit to scare away geese with his gun. The man was reportedly on disability leave after suffering a brain injury.

The officer shown in the video has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is underway.

Standard Police procedure to me. Reports of man armed with a gun. The officer need to effectively take him down. He was too slow so the kick in the face got him down quickly and arrest was made. Good job. I am glad the officers are safe and did not get shot. Criminals are criminals and only they are responsible for violating their own rights. My rights is the right to live in a safe society and no criminal should take that away from me.

@abcstudioproductions Dude your crazy there is a criminal investigation on going. Mantler is being fired and may be charged. The Crown of Canada is saying that this officer of the law broke the rule of law by his criminal conduct. You can't justify this escalation in violence. Sure criminals need to be taken down but no police force in the world would say "well if he's going too slow just boot fuck his face".

No policy would say "if the suspect is not going to the ground fast enough, you have the right to kick that individual in the face as hard as you deem fit". That's why there is a criminal investigation happening. Your understanding of rights in somewhere around the kindergarten level. Maybe if the man wasn't actually cooperating then you can escalate, but no because the cooperation is to slow.

What part of that video did you not see, watch it again if you're that fucking ignorant - he was clearly crouching down but had his face up towards the officer, he apparently has back problems so maybe he was saying he couldn't go any faster or was just fuckign wondering what the fuck was up?
