@917TurboPanzer I'm not arguing ,you're probably right ,tho i quoted from my books ,where the team back then said it ran some full laps set up to 1580hp @ 39psi boost but raced at 1106hp to preserve the engine (tho they do mention the blow off valve incident ,but they don't say the power was achieved then) My bad on the weight :) 820kgs where the /10s. Tho 29kgs is not much for today's street car standards ,in racing it made quite a difference!

@LordMaxJa 1580 horsepower for qualifying is a bit of a tall tale. True, that level of power was reached, however it was during a dyno accident when a blow-off valve became stuck. Given the boost numbers avaliable on the boost screw, it seems the engone would never have made more than approx. 1200 PS-DIN, which is more than enough IMO :) The chassis weight is more like 849 kg, 924 kg with Donohue onboard. (No oil or fuel)

@ukrje True ,but Mark Donohue's 917/30 (AUDI+Porsche Sunoco livery) ran in the qualifying sessions with the engine set up to produce 1.580hp! With a weight of only 820kgs ,it truly is the only car with this enormous power to weight ratio of (hold on to your pants) 1927hp per ton! Besides probably top fuel dragsters ,there's no car out there achieving this ratio. Another ratio is the HP per liter ,not a record but still impressive at nearly 300hp per liter (5.3 flat 12 twin turbo engine)

there are many car´s out there with more HP than weight..

I just say F ( 620 kg, 750 HP.. in 2005 620 kg @ 950 HP)

I actually saw this car wheelie at the Glen during a practice session the last year it was run. There has got to be someone with pictures of these 1200+ hp cars lifting their front wheels off of the ground!!!!!!!

Compared to this era, all racing today is spec racing. I still appreciate motor racing, but to grow up in this wild and wonderful time was priceless.
