Legendary Hank Williams, Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash steel player Don Helms recorded this great song with Mark David and his band on November 15, 2007. He used the EXACT same steel guitar used in Walking After Midnight, Jingle Bell Rock and over 100 Hank Williams recordings. He aquired this Gibson double neck steel in 1949.

Produced by Guided By Voices producer Todd Tobias at Waterloo Studios in Kent, Ohio.

  • This is a song I can listen to over and over and still love it.. Thanks again for a great song!!

  • @jpeanrkode ...Thanks for the info......Don was a Class Act.....my favorite Steel Player

  • @honkeytonker Don had several of those. Ol' Red and Goliath were nearly identical. Of the two times I saw him in person, I was never sure which one he was playing. Throughout his later years people would give him steel guitars. I know of one Console Grande look-alike that was given to him near the end of his life, which is now owned by a friend of mine. My guess is the guitar in these pictures is "Goliath", which he was usually toured with in his post-Hank years.

  • A great song, and great singing, and of course, Don Helms was a legend. I can't imagine Hank Williams without Don Helms and Jerry Rivers.

  • Hi Don Helms and the Nightly Lights. a disc of yours found its way into the home of a previously known Beach Boys' recording engineer. We don't know how. David in Gulf Coast Florida
