This video was taken with a Panasonic DMC-ZS3 in AVCHD format. (1280x720). The file created by the ZS3 is an .mts, which YouTube will accept; however, converting to .mp4 (H.264) cuts the file size significantly, making it much easier to upload. This .mts was converted to .mp4 with Handbrake.

You need to encode it to a different format. Problem is that AVCHD is so highly compressed that even todays high end laptops and towers can't really play it back without stuttering. I suggest you convert it to MP4 before uploading. You can use ffmpegX or Google free "avchd to mp4 converter". If you're on a Mac you can use the software you already have, iMovie, this will convert it to an intermediate codec and you can then edit it and encode it to MP4 for youtube. (Yeah AVCHD sucks to work ..)
