20th Century Fox Home Entertainment Presents: An Exclusive Interview with George Lucas - Part 2 of 3.

In this three part interview with movie critic Leonard Maltin, George Lucas gives insight into the creation of the original trilogy. These interviews were on the last VHS release of the original Star Wars trilogy (pre-Special Edition) and have never been officially re-released.

In Part 2, Lucas talks about the genesis of the story for the Empire Strikes Back, the creation of Yoda, and his collaboration with composer John Williams.

  • @RDarth My thoughts exactly

  • @raptorgrrl Nope. Laserdiscs had these things since 1985.

  • A lot of fans hate his guts now but we wouldn't have Star Wars without him. Thanks Mr. Lucas.

  • @punjabimundia

    He is one

  • I remember watching the original films back in the early 90's on cable. Before the movies were altered. I now own the original trilogy on DVD w/ the original theatrical versions on separate discs. Seeing the making of these epic films was very fun and informative. This interview is just plain awesome. Would be cool if it is included in the Blu-Rays of the original trilogy. Thank you for posting this!

  • I remember watching VHS when I was a little kid and I did not know how to fast forward this interview to see the movie...those were the days

  • @UFOSPACE1999 Nope becaue when he first showed it to Copolla and Spielberg everyone liked it EXCEPT George Lucas who threw a hissy fit and went to the editing room and showed them a new cut..and principally got laughed at by everyone and ws then forced, to save his money, to show the original version made by Irvin keshner.

  • These interviews are like a precursor to DVD extras. lol

  • @UFOSPACE1999

It's worth noting that it wasn't so much Lucas on set everyday as it was Gary Kurtz, the producer who was overseeing the film.. Lucas apparently disliked that Kurtz wasn't reigning Kershner in as he was slowing down production & running the film over budget because he insisted on doing multiple takes & giving the film a slower, more thoughtful feel. At one point Lucas even tried to cut the film with a faster pace, wanting Empire to have a quick, adventurous tone like A New Hope.

  • @TRE1275 ...and u act like George WAS NOT on the set everyday that Irving was directing, from ideas from George? Well I agree..that TESB is the best of the films...IT IS still George's vision.
