In a below comment, stayfrostywilly said "that 'our' world, is a small one"
...
Funny he should say that because I'll be doing drum corps with him this summer and I didn't even notice till just now that he had commented right before me! What are the chances? It's a big small world.

I think you are putting out a great message about taking advantage of the online community to market yourself. I use facebook as a social tool and a business tool. A great example of facebook being a great tool for me is the fact that I just moved home to Syracuse from Tennessee and a fellow percussionist that I've only had lunch with once three years ago got in contact with me about trying to gig out and work on duets. It's crazy, I just added him for fun and it's getting me work. Thanks!

MTT/LSO are really pushing the technology with the YouTube symphony thing; it's great to see people embracing this, especially since it takes so much guts to upload a video. This is not a concert where it's done and over fast (although the concert is a special and irreplacable setting of its own); here, viewers can rewind and nitpick as many times as they desire. It's great that we're building this online community which can only further our art form.

The youtube thing is HUGE, and by far one of the biggest tools a young performer has nowadays to start to build a reputation beyond their own city, and it's also a great tool for composers to get their own works out there.

Yes... absolutely right. I find it so interesting to see how people are using this stuff...
A number of us that are working on the piece are now following each other via twitter. I am under "jeffsass" so fee free to follow me, I will be posting as I work on the Stout Etude from this show.

Our world is small, and everybody pretty much knows everybody. You are already building your brand... for the future. Thanks for commenting!

Answer to the Question: I'm friends on facebook with just about every serious percussionist that I meet. This includes everyone from college professors to other musicians my age who will no doubt go far in the music world.

Very good... just be sure to remember in the future how important your facebook friends are when you get new opportunities from your connections with them! thanks for commenting.

Cool! I just put in an order for the Stout book.
Speaking of connecting with people around the world, did anyone here make videos for the YouTube Symphony Orchestra (the worlds first online collaborative orchestra)? I made some videos to participate, and if youd like to check them out, theyre on my YouTube Channel. Yes, I might have overdone it with the differentiating myself from other percussionists idea.
