  • I served on board the Neosho in early 1964 while on the waiting list for ET school at Great Lakes (then was assigned to the USS Lorain County LST 1177).

My memories of the Neosho include a Carribean cruise, refueling ships at sea, and time spent in dry dock in Baltimore.

  • I was stationed aboard USS Neosho AO 143 from Oct 56 to Mar 66. Worked in the engine room. Stood Throttle Watch or cargo pump steam turbine watch most of the time.

This video brought back old memories. Do you have any video or pictures of the throttle boards?

I was a MM FA just out of A school.

    Thanks for the memories!

  • Hmm. That's a little sad despite having really good ship in service.

  • She was taken apart for scrap in 2005. Only the memories remain.

  • So she is an old ship. Is she still in service or decomissioned?

  • The Neosho was the namesake of her class. I believe she was commissioned in '54.

  • What class is Neosho in, amd how old is it?

  • Actually it was a steam turbine engine. She was the smoothest riding ship I've ever been on. Not a bit of vibration.

  • Gas Turbine engine?

  • I was onboard USNS Neosho as an ET in 89-90. She was a great ship. I'm glad I have some video to remember her by.
