  • always cracks me up when I hear people attribute the guitar on Layla and the entire album to clapton. Obviously he's awesome, but what would Layla or the album be without Duane?

  • It took me years to love this version but I eventually did. It's achingly sad in the way the entire D/Dominoes album is. In fact, the raw heartache you hear in the vocal is kind of representative of the whole album and what Clapton was said to be going through over Patty Harrison at the time. Comparison with, and rating against, Jimi's original is pointless in the extreme, as well as disresptful toward both.

  • @electrickithara just that simple comment said it all! Thank you

  • Timeless....inspiring....Duane is unmistakably audible in this classic....his guitar playing will never be replicated.....used to visit his grave site in my hometown, Macon, Ga. Left many a "roach" behind....for the memories....

  • @dantean I love both versions and heard the Clapton version live at Rich Stadium in Buffalo way back when. That was when Eric was kicking heroin and was on the Heiniken Maintenance Program.

  • @uw10isplaya Well, Allman did the rythm guitar in this song, the most difficult one in terms of playin, and clapton put the feeling...totally agree with you

  • @thedragonofpoe

i dont know about that, its completly a different feel.. jimis was clean, smooth and beautiful, this is gritty and much more bluesy in sound which still is great yet much different. plust jimis guitar work is much more inspired

  • This is honestly so much better than Jimi Hendrix's version, even though he wrote it

  • @TheMichaelseymour

who cares if it sounds 60s...its the best sound ever....1983(a merman i should turn to be) doesnt sound dated, it sounds like its coming from the future even now

  • This is really nice.

  • @sjhk60 Ironically enough my favorite songs off this album are Thorn Tree in the Garden, and I looked Away.. I am not taking from the other songs they are all good. probably one of the best albums ever made...
