Testing my Locomobile steam car in 2001 after its restoration. The car is due to run in the 2009 London to Brighton to raise money for the Southport and Birkdale RSPCA.

  • 1901 locomobile - nice restoration :-) And you made the London to Brighton through that torrential rain! Well done!

Looks like the later engine - with bands round the cylinders, but still an upright engine before they went to the horizontal layout.

  • Hi

Thanks for your kind comments, it was very wet on the run. The engine is numbered in the 3000's which puts production around spring 1901. I understand banded cylinders first appeared late in 1900

  • Are the round things on the ground chocks?

  • Wow that thing is quiet... I don't see a condenser but it sure sounds like it has one!

  • You must've set off early - I didn't manage to get any photos of you at the steam watering stop or at Brighton - I did manage to catch up with one of the toledos and several stanleys - and yes the weather was diabolical!
