The town of Saline, Michigan, is located in Washtenaw County and has a history that dates back to before the 17th century. Saline became an unincorporated village in 1832, but before it was settled, it was a hunting ground among the Native American community. They also collected salt from the areas springs.
In the 1700s, French explorers navigated the river by canoe to harvest the salt this area became known for, subsequently calling this body of water Saline, meaning salt .
When Saline was officially settled, it was populated mostly by people of England and Germany. Orange Risdon is credited with being the towns official founder.
Over 8,000 people currently reside in Saline. It is located just southwest of Ann Arbor and northwest of Milan.
Saline is well-known for its Celtic Festival which attracts people from all over the country. Saline also happens to be home to a couple of high school fiddle groups, the Saline Fiddlers and Fiddlers Restrung. Both are nationally recognized.
