  • Thanks man...Only thing is I've checked all my plugins and Waves REQ has the best sounding fader...so now you are saying I should check the Free G. OK sometimes soon. take care. Go look me up on facebook you can hear my work from 1982 and up

    peace.

  • I have to tell you, I use my ears to test how things sound...After 30 years of making records, I trust what I hear more then any "nulling tests"...It reminds me how amazing the CD specs sheet looked in 1981 and how CDs actually sounded...so, go figure...digital audio has two sides to it. What they tell about it and what you know about it by using it...keep listening. Good luck. YV

  • My friend, what you are saying about digital being ones and zero is a myth you need to let go off...As Bob Ludwig once said "never turn your back on digital"...Digital processing will fool you if you don't keep an eye on it... Finally , if you can't hear the difference, you either haven't done the test right or you just got to keep on listening very closely...

  • warm is cool....I'll check it out next time....peace. Yoram Vazan

  • this tip was not aimed at musicians, but rather, professional colleagues around the world, who use Protools and share knowledge to improve the sound quality of the digital systems we are forced to work with after so many years of analog bliss.... Those who find this explanation confusing should be happy to realize that they need to do more reading and beef up their professional knolwledge and audio jargon... .

  • great. now that your vcomp is set, leave the input level of the vcomp at zero, all you have to do is insert another plug that has a level control on it to adjust the amount of level GOING INTO THE VCOMP. until the comp shows gain reduction and it sounds right to you. bye

  • bullshit

  • here is a solution for you all: just use trim plugin before the compressor to reduce the gain. you can get it for free from the good people at Sonaksis. it's call Free-G.

  • Please share some other insights!

  • @FlaFlaBigoudi His test nulled which means if he was to hear a difference then that would label him as delusional!

  • @darrenaudioguy You must do something wrong, You should have to hear the difference. Cheers.

  • Tested this several times with complete nulling. It does not work.

  • After several tests with this concept I can confirm that both methods nulled completely. In other words .. I call SNAKE OIL :)

I would love to be proven wrong, but I must report that this, so far, does not work!

  • I tried this trick for myself and couldn't hear a difference. I tried running 2 instances of the compressor in parallel, one with the input gain set using the compressor and another set using Q3. One of these was phase inverted.

With the input at -24dB, they nulled completely (-Inf).

At +12 there was a 20dB difference. Howeve, the signals were nulled by setting the output of the Q3 to +11.7
