  • I hope that B.M. Bendis isn't writing misogynistic material because he thinks that his target audience wants to see women being made villains and then having their face blown off. Maybe if women were treated better and given more of an important place in comics, more women would actually start reading comics. Then again, this is an industry known for it's busty and scantily clad women as opposed to average and sensibly dressed women. So sad.

  • Bendis has always written his material to reflect 'real life.' I have a feeling that he would claim that real life has violence, and in many cases the violence is against women. But superheroes are an expression of our frustration with the 'real world' and symbolize our struggle to overcome its evils. The good guys get to overcome those evils by winning in the end. Sometimes I think Mr. Bendis forgets that, cuz lately, the heroes haven't won squat.

    What say you smallmaniac?

  • The thing with Deena though is her character arc was pretty satisfying I think. She was put through the fire and did a lot of bad stuff but she came through it in the end with integrity.

Your right about Luke Cage and some others on New Avengers...is anyone else sick of reading endless fill-in issues about Luke Cages home life?

The Busiek-Perez run on Avengers was SO much better than Bendis's run but Bendis's name sells books so thats what most people will remember, not the good stuff.

  • BRIAN BENDIS HEARTS LUKE CAGE 4 LIFE!

    Heh.

  • Brian Michael bendis has zero respect for his current fellow writers in general, he pretty much ignores anything anybody else is doing in another title unless he has a hand in it. He takes both characters and artists from other writers (Stephano Casseli - Dan Slott) and he kills characters from other title inspite of what another writer is doing with them.

  • Y'know Deemar, I don't think its a case of Bendis having no respect for his fellow writers, its more of a case of editorial getting things in line with the different books and what's going on with the characters. Jeph Loeb puts it squarely on his editor when it comes to what happened with She-Hulk in his book and in Peter David's book. And you know what? He's right.

    Can't believe I said that.

  • I completely agree. Writing to reflect real life is fine. But he can't mix the bad parts of real life in with the hopes that comics have always brought, and not have the outcome be a positive one. Real life or not, the human spirit tends to rise above things, and that's what people want to read. Whether it's real world or superhero, we want to see people overcome. I don't know why Bendis thinks women can't be a part of that.
