This is a video from Friday practice sessions of the HSR Watkins Glen Historic Races combined Group #6 Historic GTP/Group C/WSC Series and #7 Championship of Makes.
Historic GTP/Group C:
The Historic GTP/Group C Series includes IMSA GTP, GTP Lights, Group C and Group C2 cars. The races are held in conjunction with HSR and SVRA events. These exciting cars are incredibly fast - much faster than the current Daytona Prototypes. They bring back the days of the Porsche/Jaguar/Nissan battles of the late eighties and early nineties. There is nothing quite like a field of these historic race cars taking the green flag. There are usually more of these cars in the HSR grid than you would have seen at any one IMSA race.

World Sportscar Challenge:
These high-horse powered, open cockpit sports prototypes competed either in the FIA, IMSA or Grand-Am WSC Series from 1990 thru 2000. The marques include: Spice, Tiga, Argo, Gebhart and Panoz. Other makes may be added at the discretion of HSR. They compete on the same exciting tracks listed above. The cars are split into tow classes: WSC1 - WSC Cars 1998-2000 and WSC2 - WSC Cars 1990-1997.

Championship of Makes
These cars make up their own unique group of historic racing. Many cars in this series represent the Can-Am cars that dominated the racing scene in the 60's and 70's. Lola, Swift, Shelby Can-Am and Chevron are represented in the video above.
Enjoy!

  • ok here's a question: why is there an Audi R8 in the group?

  • Looks to me like the most recent cars that can be driven in HSR at least in this division are from 8 years ago, which is why this 2001 Audi R8 can be raced. Pretty sweet car.

  • Turn 9, coming out of the boot and rejoining the short course.
