Beam elements are used to perform FEA on a SolidWorks Frame. Shows how to select frame members for analysis, insert joints, fix boundary conditions, apply loads. Results are produced for maximum stress, displacement, shear-moment, and factor of safety. Frames are used in FSAE, Formula Student, Baja, Formula Hybrid and other vehicle competitions.

  • I used the Solidworks 2010 and when i right clicked the Motion Study, it show new motion study and design study not the simulation study but i manage to find the simulationXpress and use it.

one problem is when i choose a beam as fix point, the rest of the beam just disappear...

and i cannot find the treat as beam option as well.

    could you help me please?

Nice vids from the Solidworks anyway

  • Hi Shoung,

SolidWorks Simulation is an Add-In in the SolidWorks Commerical version. SolidWorks simulation is available in the SolidWorks Education Edition or SolidWorks Student Edition by selecting Tools, Add Ins. Check SolidWorks Simulation, SolidWorks Flow Simulation or SolidWorks Motion (for kinematics)

  • @avinashk0123 if you're using a new version and you've used weldments, it has probably automatically detected the beams.

  • The option of TREAT AS A BEAM is not showing in my software, so please suggest me for it......

  • How do you find TR?

  • @macrossvr If you run a mixed mesh with both beams and solid/shells, then you have to define how they interact. If you were running just beams, the "Global Contact" in "Component Contacts" takes care of it and you don't need to define contact sets unless you want to, but when you have a mixed mesh, you have to go into "Contact Sets" and specify the contacts at the boundaries of beam & solid/shell such as non-pen, bonded, etc. otherwise SW will throw a fit.

  • Rule #1 of technical documentation...when a simpler word will suffice...use the simpler word! There is no need to say "utilize" a dozen times when the word "use" will do. Drove me nuts. In addition to the Dr Sbaitso voice generation, of course.

  • this chick is trying real hard to sound like stephen hawking

  • I have a problem when I click run there a msg that said "please define bonded contact set between beem and solid/shell . how do I fix this?

  • This analysis would work great but the mesh is WAY too coarse, and why can't solidworks simulation allow me to adjust that? Also, the software should also give joint loads but it doesn't as well. These are serious flaws in its functionality
