Video captures the Volitan Lionfish in an aquarium environment and details the basics on captive conditions, care and diet for any aquarist looking to add one to their tank. • funny, i was about to buy lionfishes, from thatpetplace, two weeks ago. i'm glad i didn't, otherwise i'll be getting the wrong specie. this fish is a russell's lionfish and not a volitan. the volitan's chin has stripe markings like the rest of the body. the russell's don't. the volitan's rear dorsal, caudal, and anal fins have black spots all over. the russel's don't. some russell's may have a few spots but not enough to cover the whole fin. volitan have short face, russell's have long face.

  • @TheDunHorse Same species just different clour morph fish stores will do that. They will also sell Russels as Volitans or viceversa.

  • ok forthefishes, ive seen your same exact comment everywhere, not only that, but these are EVASIVE SPECIES. they should not be in american waters, but they are and are killing everything else. I understand your little attempt to "save the reefs" but atleast know something about the fish your trying to save, or which videos you are copy and pasting to. NOTE TO ANYONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN THESE FISH: GO CRAZY GET TWO WILD CAUGHT ONES IF YOU WANT TO SAVE THE FISH, GET 2 FORTHEFISHES

  • Not cool. Coral reefs are being decimated by fish collecting for aquariums!

I've lived in Hawaii over 20 years and haven't seen one yet, except in a tank.

Cruel. Fish live much longer on the reef.

  • i wont 2!!

  • your information is slightly skewed as most reef tanks salinity is kept at 1.024 to 1.026 and most reefs have these fish in it and they are thriving but according to your video they should be un happy.

  • me too!!! i plan on changing my 55 gallon tank, into a salt water tank and get him and a snowflake eel. very sexy fish : )

everybody feel free to look at my community tank on my profile.

  • True but not deadly. Just painful. Sink in hot water for 30 minutes and it will lessen and eventually clear up
