Constructed by the Budd Manufacturing Company in 1934 for the Boston and Maine Railroad, the Flying Yankee is an early high-speed streamlined train. The diesel-powered trainset saw service under various names on both the B&M and the Maine Central until it was retired in 1957 and placed on display at the Edaville Railroad in South Carver, Mass. Today, the Flying Yankee Restoration Group is working to bring the historic Yankee back to life to educate the public, generate tourism, and promote modern rail technology. During Railfest 2009, the restoration group organized an evening photo session featuring the Yankee at the Hobo Railroad in Lincoln.

  • Very nice footage. I'm the President of the Flying Yankee Restoration Group and appreciate you posting this video.

  • No problem - it's the least I could do to help such a great cause! Thank you for a wonderful time at Railfest and best of luck with the completion of the project.
