This is from the 2/20/88 show in Lucketts, VA and is some the best live bluegrass ever recorded. Dave broke a mandolin string on this number so they did it again for the crowd.

  • @kalalot The role of a guitar in a bluegrass band is to provide rhythm. Dudley's guitar playing was absolutely perfect. 90% of the driving sound you hear is coming from his solid, straight down rhythm. Hardly anyone plays rhythm anymore in a bluegrass band. Now the guitar is used for a prop for most of the song an then they go into some off the wall break that don't follow melody at all. He did absolutely what he needed to do with his rhythm and the occasional TASTEFUL break.

  • one of the best bluegrass bands ever ! Today they would put a little more emphasis on the role of the guitar perhaps; it's excellent tough!

  • are you kidding me? amazing!
