  • Looks like a great toy!

  • @artgonewrong Heheh I wouldn't exactly call one of the most powerful and versatile music creation tools to hit the market in years, a "toy"...

  • @DanMummSolo I call all of my 17 guitars 'ladies'...that this is no lady....sorry.

  • @artgonewrong No need to apologize. Sounds like you've got an old school way of looking at guitars. I wouldn't argue with you there. But remember, this isn't a guitar. It's not a lady or a toy. It's a powerful music creation tool. Your favorite guitar might be a "lady", but this is a "computer". You can't really compare the two.

  • What happens if a string breaks?

  • @DrxSlump I think you'd have to try to cut one of the wires that simulate strings in order to break it. I highly doubt that it could break from picking it. But in that event, you would just order a replacement and put it in the guitar. It's pretty easy to tighten and/or loosen the strings to fit your preference. I believe you could remove a string the same way.

  • keep on pressing 4 :D

  • @flowride68 The presets aren't very good. If you aren't going to use this with some sort of DAW you will probably be disappointed.

  • Cool stuff. So does this thing actually have a BASS sound or two in the presets? I saw a sample of the synth bass on their website (weak, it was), but I can't seem to find a list of all the presets on the web. I can only assume that it does.

  • velocity ?

  • @drkam6 I'm a child of the 80's, I always wanted a DG-20, but never got my hands on one. The G10 looks alright, but I am weird about used stuff.. Although the expressiveness isn't quite the same, you can still do quite a lot with midi and vsti's. I was able to sample my normal guitar setup playing various techniques (palm muting, harmonics, bends, etc) and create my own soft synths, but I like it for controlling other instrument sounds where the expressiveness of the guitar doesn't translate

  • @xplicitpoetix "Because the YouRock guitar doesn't have normal strings, you can't do bends and vibratos as you normally would on a traditional guitar". I think it might be like some old controller I tried, the "strings" were just long plastic bumps along the fretboard. A Yamaha G10 (with real strings) is quite affordable these days although rare. Look for Dr. Ika's videos demonstrating its capability. Even the Casio DG-20 (with plastic strings) can get the expression of a guitar.

  • sort of glued or built on the fretboard*

  • @drkam6 The strings are on the fretboard, but sort glued or build on the fretboard, so it's insanely low action. The YRG can be surprisingly expressive. The main thing you have to realize is the YRG isn't really a guitar but a digital interface in the shape of a guitar. It's an affordable polyphonic midi controller than can be played like a guitar. The Synthaxe, even used, costs almost 25 times MORE than the YRG and isn't close to 25 times better than the YRG.

  • I did a lot of tweaking in the control panel today and hammer-ons and pull-offs are working fine. The string issues I had were resolved by tightening up the strings. I'm still very interested in @DanMummSolo YRG Control Panel setup, but mine is at least serviceable right now. RIght now I am starting to notice the volume of the notes are inconsistent, I think that has to do with velocity, but like I said, I'm pretty new to midi controllers.
