you play tire or tite or te tay (pronunciation varies with different gharana, baaj, teacher, mother-toungue etc). You play tite with your palm, this is then called tire tire. In order to achieve dhire dhire you must also include ge. With the simultaneous strike of tire and ge you achieve dhire, please note that you only play ge with ti and leave the re lone. Hope that helps, if you need any more help please message me and maybe i can upload a video or something.

He is playing a specific tabla stroke called the "Dhere Dhere" which is played in the one hand (in his case the left) with the palm, and combining that with the "Ghe" (also a stroke) of the other hand (in his case the right hand). I am a right handed person, so I play this the other way around. Most other tabla strokes are played with the fingers, with the exception of "Ka" which can be played with either the palm or fingers.
