Hi there I have the same loco as you do and I opened it up and saw one decoder plug in if ran with dcc do I need just a motor decoder and if so what would you recommend

BLi charged me 30 bucks for the decoder and 30 to install it. They said that seeing how I have a NCE system I could not program it so I let them do it. Small price when considering I only paid $150 for it in the first place. All in all if your handy and don't use NCE try to install your own, there only $20 for a no sound decoder. Yes it does kind of. You get the motor noise and other stuff like air release but no bell or horn. I sent this baby back to the factory and had them install a dcc decoder in it(bl uses 2 decoders, one for the sound and one for the dcc) and let me tell you its a sweet runnin loco. How sweet? Well I have over 30 new within the last 2 years locos and this little gem is in the top 3 against MTH, Athearn Genesis, Atlas Gold and silver, Wathers proto 2000 and Kato.
