Wow. This video is old. Follow up time. We actually use both names, but they're not hyphenated. We use Andrea's last name as our official middle name so we don't have to actually use it all the time!

Let me first express my warmest congratulations to you two. I think it's great you're getting married. My girl and I are planning to get married this October, and this video was of special interest because we've decided that we're both going to keep our own names. She's not taking mine. I realized that I, as a man, would not be expected to change my name, and that it felt wrong to expect her to change hers. Your idea of creating a new shared name is something we discussed, too.

@stevelikestocurse Lots of couples are opting to do that. They don't think it's necessary to change your last name just because you're married. What will you do if you have kids, though? Will you give them both names and hyphenate them?

@SistersTalkRadio We're taking the easy way out and planning on not having kids. But, of course, the unexpected may always happen . . . We talked the other day about agreeing ahead of time on which name to use -- she favors giving the child(ren) her name, and I would be fine with that. Neither one of us are fans of hyphenated names.

@stevelikestocurse Yeah, I hear ya on the hyphenated name thing. I'm not a fan either, but it would be a great compromise in a lot of situations. Andrea and I don't plan to have kids together. I already have 2 teenagers who are quickly approaching adulthood. I don't want to start over.
