Luis Flores is a Mexican filmmaker with diploma in Educational Production Television from the Ministry of Education in Mexico. He began his career working at the Center for Television Education as a Director making short clips for educational programs. In Mexico, Luis also worked as a producer coordinator, and assistant to the producer manager for educational Television series. Furthermore, Luis continued to explore his artistic direction in the newspaper and magazine industry for twelve years as an art creator and graphic designer.

Luis moved to Canada in 2000. He is fluent in Spanish and English. He has been a member of the Directors Guild of Canada since 2005. Since arriving in Canada, Luis has had a lot of experience working in the film industry: feature films, TV movies, TV shows, and commercials; Luis also worked at the Canadian Documentary Film Festival Hotdocs for three consecutive years, from 2002-04 and has collaborated in the Toronto International Film Festival. He has continued to develop professionally and artistically through workshops at Humber College, the National Film Board, and the Directors Guild of Canada. In 2005, Luis received his Canadian high school and business diploma at the Adult Learning Center in Toronto.

PERSONAL WORK

Luis has produced, directed and edited seven short films, five music videos, as well as various corporate and artistic web videos : The Storm; Involuntary Red; Take Care; The Goal; Alex - I Want to Say; a documentary Canadian Experience; the making of The Untitled Puppet Project for the Toronto Arts Council; four live concert recordings for the band Dirty Maria sponsored by VIA Rail Canada; and the Music Video Levanta la Mano - La Union.

Luis is currently writing two feature films, preparing a short production in Mexico city for 2010, applying to the CFC Directors' Lab Program, and running his company LmF Web Cinematography Inc. Web-Film services in HD.

SELECTED FILM INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE IN CANADA

Luis has worked in the Canadian film industry as a first, second, and third Assistant Director since 2005. During this time, he has been responsible for collaborating with the producer and director to apply artistic, technical, and professional expertise for on-set expedition and pre-production organization: organizing the crew, securing equipment, breaking down the script, preparing the script board as well as the shooting schedule.

During production Luis coordinates and supervises cast and crew activities in order to maintain an organized flow of production activity. He is was responsible for preparing the shooting schedule and to keep it in line with time limitations imposed by the budget, cast availability, and coverage of the script. It was also his responsibility to communicate advance scheduling to cast and crew and to aid in the scouting, surveying, and coordinating of locations.

Between jobs as Assistant Director, Luis worked as a Production Assistant for the location department and as an on-set Production Assistant. As a location Production Assistant, Luis was responsible for preparing the film locations with signage and protective coverings; crowd and traffic control when not maintained by police officers or security personnel; and distribution of film notifications and signatures from the community when necessary. As an on-set Production Assistant, Luis worked as a general assistant to the First Assistant Director. In addition to his work as a set runner, he also worked as an Office Production Assistant alongside the Production Coordinator.
