From "Mark Russell Looks at Campaign '76"--clips from Russell's Feb 1976 special. This was the first election of Mark Russell's comedy specials, and here he began his tradition of polling the audience; "If the election were held tomorrow...." Listen for the lone man who votes for George Wallace! See if you can name all of the 1976 candidates! He also talks about how Gerald Ford campaigns against abortion, even as his wife favors it. Medical records are addressed too, as he imagines the candidates being examined like in an army physical. The joke about Reagan is the best in this clip!

  • Look at the paltry response to the guy who actually went on to win this election.

  • "A recent survey reveals that most pro-abortionists are people who have already been born."

Ronald Reagan said something very similar a few years later. Hmm..... maybe Reagan was stealing from Russell? ;-)
