The Garden of Gethsemane, Jerusalem, Israel

The Garden of Gethsemane is located on the Mount of Olives on a hill overlooking the walls of Old Jerusalem. Jesus would come to the garden to pray, and it is here where the Roman soldiers arrested him before his crucifixion. On the day of March 17, 2010, we visited the garden, full of ancient olive trees. From here, we could hear gunfire coming from the Old City, as conflicts are going on around East Jerusalem. Pretty unnerving as most of us had ever heard gunfire like that before in our travels!

Are you kidding me ?? that's the garden of Gethsemane ?? this is where Jesus Christ supposedly came to agonized in prayer before the betrayal of Juda ?? but it look so small and the olive trees,could it be quite so old ?? many people said these olive trees dated back to the time of our lord.

I think the olive trees there are very old -- thousands of years old. The way the garden is set up is there is a narrow road going from the Mt. of Olives toward the Old City of Jerusalem and the garden is located on both sides of the road. It is kind of in 2 parts. High walls surround both gardens. Ancient olive trees are also outside both garden walls, so maybe at one time, it was all one big garden?? I don't know. Also, all around there on the Mt. of Olives is a huge Jewish graveyard.
