How to TIG weld using the lay-wire technique.
The lay wire technique means leaving the rod in the puddle all the time. This is not always the best way to weld everything but it does work great on certain types of steel and stainless steel weld joints. Pipefitters and boilermakers have been using this technique for years with good results. Even Race car builders do it.

  • Hi Joody I'm Daniel from Croatia Europe I have a welder WSE 200p AC / DC (with a foot pedal that you do not have the habit to use) the same as Everlast. so I wonder about how good a welder for welding the root pass it in black steel, stainless steel and aluminum and the possibilities that there are advantages and disadvantages are. This welder on youtube there are plenty of people but only shown no welding parameters. Can you test it. THANK YOU!

  • walking the cup is using a crutch!

  • Witch machine you enjoy using the most? the Miller or the Chinese one? I know that this first one is an oxymoron because miller probably is making 99% of their parts all ready in China all ready! BECAUSE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO COMPETE WITH SLAVE LABOR!

  • Great work :)

  • @bj44magnum walking the cup will pass a 6G cert test and x-ray when done properly. It's a perfectly acceptable technique.

  • jody, you have very informational videos. I used the secon video in your welding settings to explain to my buddy how to set up his machine, because when i tried i got the blank stare lol. i check them out on bordom days, you exlpain very laymans terms. Im a boilermaker, tube welder.

  • @1shot1kill197435 Been Tig welding for about 4 yrs now and the easiest way i found to learn walking the cup was by grabing some 1/4in plate and doing a vert up open root Tig joint.. 35 degree bevels.. throw in a root.. then just weld over top of it walking the cup.. if ur stuggling try it without the filler wire for a bit just work on the motion and add the filler once you have it figured out better... and because of the thin plate you get alot of practice walking the cup on caps as well

  • Ok K9for kids how about you make a video that way I can see how it;s done. Rather then trying to be little some ones comment. If you weld then you know that not all welders have to learn to walk the cup. It all depends on the code your welding under. But im sure you knew this by now huh?

  • @1shot1kill197435 10Years? Comon...I learned that in 3 days

  • Ive been tig welding for 10 years now. Im certified under Section 9 under the boiler code, as well as having my A.P.I. certifications. However to this day I have not been able to learn how to Walk The Cup. Could you do a video on how to do that? The more I learn the more I make. Thanks bro
