@geertdehoux I agree with hennebry. Get the scores and study the works, practise them and reach your own idea of what Schubert's style is about. And as far as being too loud goes, he is playing in a large hall but the microphones are close up. What on earth do you expect? Have you ever played in a hall this size? Probably not. I have, many times and you simply have to size things up a bit. It's absolutely nothing like playing in a studio.
I love these recordings by the young Pollini. I wish people here were appreciating what musical genius it takes to play with such clarity, vigor, straightforwardness, balance and beauty of sound.
Pollini is an artist..there is no Schubertian anything, except perhaps temperament...which is more about artistic sincerity than anything prescriptive ...isn't the world just full of "know-all"s...did Schubert actually lay it down that precisely how to play his music?

Why do you think I've never performed in a large concert hall ?
Well, I did in many, when this body was much younger.
Although there is some truth in your comment, it doesn't justify Pollini's bold approach to these pieces, at least that's my own opinion.
Why do you say: "Get the scores and.." ??
I have the scores in my lebrary and played these pieces several times in the past.
Do you think I don't know what I'm talking about ?
Regards,
Geert Dehoux, pianist.

Is Pollini the greatest technician? I keep thinking me might be. His Chopin Etudes are incredible.

The 'Schubertian' style is missing: too fast and too loud.
Anyhow, in my humble opinion, this piece doesn't belong to Schubert's master works.
